Google Chooses India as the New Hub for Pixel Phone Production, Pixel 8 Launched

Google has announced that it will start manufacturing its Pixel smartphones in India, as part of its commitment to the ‘Made in India’ initiative. The first Google phone to be made in India will be the Pixel 8, which was launched globally last month.

The announcement was made at the Google For India 2023 event, where the company also showcased its latest products and services for the Indian market. Google said that making Pixel phones in India will help it offer better prices, faster updates, and more local features to its customers.

The Pixel 8 is the latest flagship smartphone from Google, featuring a 6.4-inch OLED display, a Snapdragon 888 processor, a 12.2-megapixel rear camera, and an 8-megapixel front camera. The phone also comes with a 4,000 mAh battery, wireless charging, water resistance, and a fingerprint scanner. The phone runs on Android 12, which offers a personalized and secure experience.

The Pixel 8 is expected to be available in India by the end of this year, with a starting price of Rs. 49,999. Google said that it will partner with local manufacturers and suppliers to produce the Pixel phones in India. The company also said that it will support the Indian government’s efforts to promote digital inclusion and innovation in the country.

Google is not the only tech giant to join the ‘Made in India’ initiative, which aims to boost the domestic manufacturing sector and create more jobs. Apple has also been making some of its iPhone models in India since 2017, and plans to expand its production capacity in the future. Other smartphone brands like Samsung, Xiaomi, Oppo, Vivo, and OnePlus also have their manufacturing units in India.
